Medpedia: a new, online health encyclopedia


Medpedia: a new, online health encyclopedia is the largest online collaborative health encylopedia is now up on the Web at http://medpedia.com/.


"The plan is to create pages for more than 30,000 medical conditions, more than 10,000 medications, thousands of medical procedure, and millions of medical facilities.
Contributors will come from medical schools -- Harvard, Stanford and the University of Michigan are apparently all on board -- schools of public health, and other health-related institutions."

  1. Wow, this is really interesting. I have always just used webmd.com before, since it has that convenient symptom checker and anytime I want to know about something it gives fast, generally easy to understand definitions. However, it would be nice to have a broader variety of medical conditions since it always seems like it doesn't quite have the information I need.

  2. I found this article interesting also, but it worries me a little bit due to people trying to diagnose themselves because they do not want to buy insurance or cannot afford it. The information can be very beneficial but make sure you see a physician if the problem gets serious.

  3. This is such a great idea! I think having information about different medications and treatment options would be so helpful to people who do not have a lot of money and cannot afford expensive care. Also, having this kind of information online allows people to privately search about symptoms that they might otherwise be embarrassed to discuss in person
